Impatiently waiting for meds to kick in
Image courtesy of renjith krishnan at FreeDigitalPhotos.net;The Neurontin doesn’t seem to be doing anything except making me gain weight and forget words with occasional clumsiness. There has been a slight drop in the number of attacks from 16 last month to 13 this month. However, if you factor in the improved weather (my biggest trigger), then I probably would have had fewer attacks with or without the medication.
However, there is a back-up plan. Next week I will receive my first round of Botox injections. If it works, then doc says I can wean off the Neurontin. Yeah! In the spirit of being realistic (and paying homage to “Murphy’s Law”), we have decided to have a back-up plan for the back-up plan. In the event that Botox is not effective, I will switch back to Topamax and probably start Diamox for the weather-induced attacks. I live in a Boy Scout family — always be prepared.
I’m sick and tired of being the victim of Migraine Disease. It’s time to get aggressive and fight back. My doctor and I are looking for at least a 50% reduction in the number of attacks. Wow, what will I do with only 6-8 Migraines a month?! It seems like such an amazing world, one that I have only dreamed of living in.
While I wait impatiently for the next step, I am reminded that so many of my Migraine friends have it so much worse. I know beautiful souls who suffer daily in the dark without hope that their pain and suffering will ever end. As I stand on the brink of hope, I say a prayer for all who have no hope. May you all find relief very soon and may God grant some compassionate doctors the skill and funds to find a cure for this horrible disease.
