Runnin’ for Research
If you’ve been following along this month, you’ve learned that public funding for migraine research is a sorry joke. The NIH simply doesn’t think that the disability caused by migraine and other headache disorders is severe enough to warrant more than about 50¢ per person per year. We will never find a cure at that rate!
Taking matters into our own hands
Unwilling to wait around for some government bureaucrat to decide our fate, patients and doctors have joined together to address the problem ourselves. Runnin’ for Research organizes fundraising races and walks across the country to raise money for migraine and headache disorders research.
Making a difference in my hometown
This year, R4R has come to my hometown, Kansas City. I am so excited to put migraine research on the map right here in my little corner of the world. I’ve lived in this area my entire life and had very limited access to good migraine care. It’s not that good treatment wasn’t available, but I didn’t know where to look. I know for a fact that there are millions who are still suffering, fumbling along the best they can, without knowing how to really get control of migraine.
Putting my money and my feet where my mouth is
I don’t believe in complaining without offering solutions, and I definitely don’t believe in asking others to do things I am unwilling to do, too. So, I have volunteered to help with our local race. I’ve also signed up for the 1 mile walk. That second step is a huge milestone for this overweight, out-of-shape granny with a bum knee. If I can do it, so can you.
Won’t you please join me?
The race is on October 8th in Kansas City, MO, Morgantown, WV, and Louisville, KY. Please make an appearance if you can — even if you can’t run or walk — to cheer on our participants. If you don’t live close enough or your health won’t permit it, please consider registering as a Virtual Runner. Your registration fee goes straight into the coffers to support migraine research and you don’t have to do anything else. We’d appreciate if you would spread the word, letting others know how they can help find a cure for migraine.
Runnin’ for Research, Inc. (R4R), was founded in 2015 as a charitable organization dedicated to research, awareness, empowerment and advocacy in all areas of headache and migraine disorders. The primary mechanism to accomplish the missions is the organization and implementation of 5K runs and walks throughout the United States.
