The price is right
Today’s Prompt: If money were no issue, what one thing would I do for the migraine community?
Many will no doubt speak of funding research to find the cause, develop better treatments, and someday even a cure for Migraines. I think that is a worthy goal. I just think that there is an obstacle we all must overcome before we can compel the right people to do the necessary research. We must destroy the stigma and wipe out the myths and misconceptions about Migraine disease that exist within the health care profession.
If money were no issue, I would fund a non-profit organization dedicated to educating health care professionals about the realities of Migraine disease. It would offer free luncheons with CEUs, give away all manner of posters, notepads, pens, and calendars covered with the truth about Migraines. Free videos would be available that would feature experts describing the latest research in Migraine as well as testimonials from actual patients describing what it’s like to live with Migraine (both untreated and treated). This organization would purchase full page advertising in medical journals. At medical conferences it would sponsor seminars lead by the foremost experts in the field. The organization would sponsor walk-a-thons, marathons, and maybe even a race car at the Indy 500. It would aggressively seek out celebrities who have Migraines and entice them to speak out on behalf of the millions who suffer daily. This is what the pharmaceutical companies do when they want a doctor to prescribe their new medicines. Doctors are used to this kind of marketing and welcome it because it doesn’t take time away from their already busy schedule.
I know it’s not just one thing. Just think how much could be done by an independent organization devoted to educating health care professionals about the realities of Migraine disease. Its very existence would change the way Migraine patients are treated in every doctor’s office in the country. Think…our very own version of the American Cancer Society. What a powerhouse they are! Wouldn’t it be nice if we had an organization with that big of a swing batting for our team?
